3rd 32K LSD Run to UP Diliman on February 19, 2012

The 32Kers! Congrats Doc Gracielle!!!

Last Sunday, February 19, 2012, I am again on the road, running my favorite LSD route to UP Diliman via Quezon Avenue the third time around in just a month time. But something new and first this time, I got company and not just one but three!

Joining me during my third LSD to UP was Doc Gracielle, who was doing her first 32K distance LSD, Rain, a fellow marathoner and Jane who was also doing her first above 3K distance :-)

Our route was generally the same with my previous LSD to UP Diliman, via Quezon Avenue with the thrills of the several elevations from Espana to Pantranco and Delta area, entry point to UP was still via Philcoa and right turn to University Avenue.

This time we did 6 loops at the UP Oval before going back to Espana. That would make a total of 32K back to back including the 6 loops at the Oval.

For me, I have longer total distance since I jog from our apartment in Sta. Mesa up to Espana and did recovery walk going home. Making a total of 36.8K! For a view of our route via dailymile.com, please click HERE.

Trio! My fellow OK OK Runners, Sir Otek & Jon
During our LSD at the UP oval, we met several friends whose also on their own LSD or training like Ian Yu aka Dagul Runner, the ever beautiful and sexy Melly Ng, and the two future BDM Ultra Marathoners Sir Otek and Jon Bruce, good luck to you guys!!!

We started at around 4:10 AM from Mini Stop Vicente Cruz in Espana, by that time I was already warmed up as I jog from Sta. Mesa. We arrived at UP Diliman at almost 6 AM with a major pit stop at Jollibee Philcoa which ate up at least 15 minutes.

The 6 loops of the Oval which is around 13K plus took us almost 2 hours to tackle, after that we were on our way back to Espana.

We clocked 4:59H to finished our 32K LSD as we arrived back at Mini Stop Vicente Cruz at 9:09AM. We did several cooling down stretches and some photo ops before parting ways. As I did my own recovery walk back home, making a total of 6:07H on the road - my longest time on the road so far, even beating my full marathon slowest time  :-)

My new LSD partners, Jane, Rain & Doc Gracielle
It was nice running with you guys, hope to have more running miles with you!

See you on the road everyone!

SHUTTLE SERVICE:
We will be providing a SHUTTLE SERVICE for 21km participants. The service will have the SM Mall of Asia as its pick-up point and will bring the 21km runners to the 21km starting line at the BGC.

Why SM Mall of Asia as pick-up point? Consideration was given to 21km runners who may have other members of the family who will be running a shorter distance so SM Mall of Asia is a more feasible originating point. Besides, there are more available parking areas there than in BGC.
More details and mechanics for the Shuttle Service will be posted once available.

BAGGAGE AREA/SERVICE:
Baggage Services will be available at the BGC race area in the form of ROVING BAGGAGE SERVICE VANS which will be on standby prior to race start and will move to the SM Mall of Asia to bring these checked-in baggages to the designated Baggage Claim Areas.

What is LSD?
Long slow distance is running at a moderate pace in which you can carry on a conversation and in which you aren’t panting for breath and don’t get side stitches (cramps) or a raw throat. Running LSD means that you’re running aerobically, that is, your body is getting sufficient oxygen. Running LSD means that you’re using moderation in your training and not pushing your body to extreme stress levels. Most of your training should be LSD if you want to run injury free. It’s during your LSD runs that your body develops endurance. – Running Injury Free

My Second Solo 32K LSD to UP Diliman on February 12, 2012

Rest mode after finishing 21K, last 11km way home
Today, February 12, 2012 I had my second solo 32K to UP Diliman. This time my route was slightly revised as I have to go to our meeting place with Doc Gracielle at Mini Stop Vicente Cruz. But unluckily she did not make it to join me for certain reasons.

My revised route was as follows:
Starting Point at Blumentritt Extension corner G. Tuazon (warm-up zone)
Second Start Point at Mini Stop Vicente Cruz along España
Road stretch from España to Quezon Avenue to QC Circle passing through QC City Hall then to Philcoa
Entry to UP Diliman via University Avenue until Oblation (start point of the Acad Oval)
Done 5 loops at the Acad Oval (1 loop=2.2Km x 5 = 11Kms)
Way back home via Quezon Ave then left turn at Araneta Avenue straight ahead
Right turn to Landargun St. and Santol and back to base

To view my route via Dailymile.com, please click HERE.

View of the Acad Oval at around 6AM
For my LSD timings:
Start time  - 4:30 AM
Start from Mini Stop - 4:40 AM
Arrived at UP Oval - 5:55 AM
Left UP Oval after 5 loops - 7:23 AM
Arrived at home - 8:45 AM

At UP Oval, cloudy weather
The weather was all good, the sun never showed up all throughout my LSD with some drizzles at around 6AM-7AM. After my 3rd loop at the UP Oval at counter clockwise direction, I had my last 2 loops at the reversed direction to balance my legs as the Oval is kind of slanting road. I have done this also in my first LSD to UP.

For more photos during my LSD, please click HERE.

Lastly, I would like to thank Avhic for noticing me while on my LSD at QC Circle and finding time to like my FB page :-)

See you on the road guys!

Unilab Run United 2011 Loyalty Shirt

Last year, the organizers of the Run United 2011 Trilogy announced that there will be a special limited edition shirt for all who will be able to complete the said trilogy, and after several months of waiting, here it is!

Just a few days ago, Runrio Inc. and Unilab anounced that the Loyalty Shirts will be available for pick-up at the Riovana BGC store starting February 11, 2012. Excited enough, I scheduled myself to be at BGC today, February 11 to pick-up my shirt ;-)

But I am slightly disappointed with the sizing, I am confused if it is mixed Asian and American size because with my Medium size shirt, the upper shirt/body fitting is all okay, the downside is the shirt length which I think is over to the Large size.

Though not so satisfied with the shirt size, I would like to still give my thanks and kudos to both Unilab and Runrio for extending this special gift to all loyal runners ;-)

See you all on the road guys!

Condura Skyway Marathon 2012 - Race Day Pics and Review

Last Saturday midnight, February 04, 2012, the first midnight race in the country was held at the Condura Skyway Marathon 2012. The event venue was at Filinvest Alabang, Muntinlupa City.

For the 42K or full marathon event, the race route covered five (5) cities from Muntinlupa, Parañaque, Taguig, Pasay and Makati. And having the Skyway for runners only once a year is indeed a great race event aside from running in the first organized midnight run!

Also ran the Skyway for fellow runners Shiela & Rona
Due to the far venue, I opted to be more early in going to the venue, and as early birds, I was the first to buy a Pinoy Fitness singlet at their booth, at the photo above is Michael, a fellow PF peep. During my first full marathon, I wore a PF Tech shirt, this time around a new PF singlet :-)

Before wave D gunstart with PF peeps
Condura also implemented wave starts, the same as last year. Since I registered late, my race bib was already at 42K wave D, or the last wave. But it was all okay because I have a lot of Pinoy Fitness peeps with me. Above photo includes Joebert, Chona, Gerald, Jared, Grace and some fellow runners :-)

Still energetic at around 15K mark
At the first half of the marathon course, Joebert, Edrick, Daniel, Jared, Grace and I maintained our pace group and had some time taking photos. The above photo was taken by Edrick. But as we progressed I observed that there were so few hydration that offered 100 plus or the partner electrolyte drink. This was a thumbs down for the organizers as I have counted only four station with 100 plus all through-out the 42K route.

Obviously at 27Km mark :-)
Approaching the 30K mark, a fellow runner, Gilbert joined our pace group which was already trimmed down to Joebert, Daniel and me. Jared and Edrick made their advance break-away and Grace slowed down. And after reaching 30K plus distance, we already felt the fatigue and cramps. It was good that for the first time I brought a superscent oil and also my ever medicine buddy- mefenamic acid (pain killer).

At around 33K mark, I had my wall which made me felt so tired and just wanted to walk. But I was determined to push myself though our target of finishing sub 5H was already not possible. That time, I made a break away to my pace group and made a solo run for the remaining kilometers until the finish line. My unofficial finish time is 5:30 - 5:35, I was so tired that I forget to check on the clock upon crossing the finish line :-(

After crossing the finish line
It was also great to meet new peeps in the running community like Gilbert from Laguna who joined us in our pace group until the past 32K mark, Randy Miranda, a fellow PF and OK OK runner, Rain Eloriaga and not to forget Doc Gracielle Daya, friend of my wife whom I failed to meet during Run United 2. Nice meeting you guys!

With Doc Gracielle. Credits to her camera :-)
All in all the race was great! In summary, here's the good and bad based in my observation for the full marathon event.

Good:
1.Conquered 5 cities in just one race
2. New route and utilized the whole stretched of the Skyway from Muntinlupa to Makati
3. First midnight run in the country (so were pioneer!)
4. Overflowing Summit water
5. Festive mode with the fireworks
6. Wide event area (that you need to really walk around just to get your medal and baggage)
7. Wave start avoided congestion (but for 42K runners of around 1,700 only, do we really need it?)
8. Post-race massage treat for 42K runners (but I think there should be more tents)

Bad:
1. Only four station with 100 plus drink (long distance runners need electrolytes, not just water). Most runners also did not like 100 plus, as it tasted bad. Powerade or Pocari would be better, but Gatorade would be best!
2. Only one banana station at km20, no more, no less (the DOLE bananas are also not that ripe). QCIM3 only got 1 station but runners passed by that station twice, for Condura it's only at u-turn # 2 at NAIA toll and no return.
3. There should be a dedicated Photo booth or loots for 42K. Running that distance then you need to que again to get your photo taken is a torture (that's why I do not have photo booth pics on my 1st FM also on my 2nd FM at Condura).

Well, that's all for now. Congratulations everyone! Stay safe, run happy, live life!
